Meet the Staff
Ray joined Aerobiology in 2020 as supervisor of the Melville, NY lab. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. John’s University. He comes from a NY based national water treatment company where he played a key role in acquiring NY ELAP certification and laying blueprints for a major upscale, modernization and relocation of the microbiology lab and leading the lab through its first state inspection post-accreditation. By doing this he made a way for the company to bring much of its microbiology analysis in-house resulting in savings and increased profitability of the company’s expansive regulatory sampling wing. Prior to this Ray worked at a NYC environmental lab as the Microbiology Supervisor where he catalyzed the lab becoming one of the first in the state to acquire certification for analysis of Legionella bacteria ELAP began to regulate the tests in the Summer of 2016. He worked closely with the Lab’s Technical Director to draft a new SOP based on Enumeration of Legionella by ISO 11731. He took the initiative to shift the labs data collection from handwritten notebooks to digital records that allowed more data collection, more quickly than in the past. Later he would also create an excel based fungal ID database and work with the lab director to create a more streamlined reporting mechanism by connecting the new laboratory logbooks directly to the report templates. Ray always aims to always move forward by providing great leadership to his team, value to his company and ever expanding reliable lab operation to clients. In addition to culture methods he also has experience analyzing fungal/spore, asbestos, microbe presence via qPCR and is always looking to the future for the next cutting edge analytical methods. Look out for growth from the Melville Laboratory!
